19 May SWALEDALE FESTIVAL – NEW JPJ COMMISSION AND WORLD PREMIERE
Swaledale Festival recently commissioned John to write a new piece to be premiered at this year’s festival on the 9th June 2021.
Entitled ‘The Bait’, this new work, featuring poetry from John Donne, was written for an ensemble of two singers (tenor and mezzo-soprano), viol and lute. The musicians performing the piece will be John Potter, Jacob Heringman, Susanna Pell and Peyee Chen. Both Heringman and Potter are members of the group Amores Pasados who have previously collaborated with John.
In fact, this will be a welcome return for John’s music at Swaledale following his 2017 commission for Amores Pasados, which also debuted at Swaledale.
Swaledale Festival is an annual festival of music and arts based in the three most northerly Yorkshire Dales, a large rural area of outstanding beauty. The programme includes a core of classical music concerts as well as folk, brass band, jazz and world music.
The evening concert is sold out, and there are a few tickets left for the afternoon performance.
